What it does
Stops certain bacteria growing (cheese, processed foods).
What it is made from
Made by fermentation with a bacterium (Lactococcus lactis). The growth medium can be milk-based.
Allergies and diets
- Dairy? Can be made from milk or lactose, or grown on a milk-based medium.
- Not vegan? Can come from animals, milk, egg or honey (not vegan).
It is a protein of bacterial origin, not milk protein, but trace amounts from the growth medium are possible.
